SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -
"It's killing them. It's making them very sick, putting them in rehab, messing them up really bad," Candice Bonikowski remarked Monday.
Angry parents say spring protests were only good to stop the sales of K2 and other synthetic drugs in the open.
"They become friends with these shop owners, and they are buying it from these shop owners in other locations," Bonikowski said.
She's demanding that the authorities stop underground sales and right away. According to sources, the synthetic drugs are still being sold, just under the table in parking lots and even some people's homes.
We called Shelby Township to make them aware of what was happening.
"So we know this stuff is still being sold out there?" we asked supervisor Rick Stathakis.
"Yes, it is, and I really can't say more than that, how it's being sold, where it's being sold, but we're on top of it, and we're going to follow this," he answered. "You guys keep doing what you're doing, too, because I know you've been very helpful to our investigations."
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department told us there are three separate investigations going on right now looking into potential sales of K2 and, in one case, fake K2.
Still some people are trying to change the ingredients and say they're not selling K2.
"There is a reformulation issue out there right now, and I really can't get into specifics because it is part of the investigation, but we're sorting through it right now, and I hope to have something to report back to you soon," Stathakis said.
We spoke with the governor's office about this to make them aware. They said the governor signed bills to make any substance they deem hazardous to be banned, regardless of what it's made of, if the Health Department says so.
"To you people selling K2, we are going to catch you, and when we do catch you, we are going to prosecute you to the fullest extent," said Stathakis.
"I want everyone to step forward and get this stuff off the shelves for good, permanently," said Bonikowski.
The Shelby Township supervisor said because of Fox 2's tips, they believe they are on to something and will let us know as soon as a bust happens. In the meantime, if you have any information about a gas station or anybody selling K2, pick up the phone and call 1-855-MICH-TIP.
