Owner of Bikinis restaurant buys, renames town

Posted: Updated:

The owner of the Austin sports bar Bikinis Bar and Grill has purchased an abandoned Central Texas town and renamed it after his restaurant.

The town, formerly Bankersmith, is located just six miles away from Luckenbach and only about 10 miles from Fredericksburg.

It was purchased by Doug Guller off of Craigslist.

The town, established in 1913, was named after Temple Smith, the president of the First Bank established in Fredrickburg. It was once home to roughly 40 people.

"We have some grand visions and some fun ideas to really make this a destination spot like Luckenbach," Guller said.

Guller, said he wants to preserve this little town. He plans to retrofit a bus into a bar, fix up the old out house and preserve a house and stage in the town. Inside he said we will likely soon find a bikinis hall of fame as well as some Bankersmith town artifacts.

The overall goal Guller says is to really put bikinis on the map and help form an entertainment triangle with Luckenbach and Fredericksburg. He hopes to have the project up and running by this fall or next spring.

There will not be a Bikinis restaurant on the property. Guller envisions the town will serve more of a music venue.
