Shuttle Enterprise move to Intrepid delayed

Posted: Updated:

The Space Shuttle Enterprise docked in New Jersey will remain there for an extra day after inclement weather delayed its move to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum until Wednesday.

The Enterprise remains docked at Weeks Marine in Port Elizabeth. It was moved there on a barge Sunday towed by a tugboat.

The shuttle was housed at Kennedy Airport since it flew from Washington, D.C. to New York atop a 747 jet.

Saturday afternoon the shuttle was placed on a barge to prepare for the journey through the harbor located at Pier 86 at 46th Street on the West Side.

The barge made the trip across New York Harbor to Port Elizabeth, N.J.

Plans are in place for a floating crane to lift the spacecraft onto the flight deck.

A tugboat will move the Enterprise to the Intrepid, a decommissioned aircraft carrier, on Wednesday.
