PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Two people captured after spending 12 years on the run from accusations they bilked investors out of about $1.7 million are scheduled to appear in federal court in Peoria on Friday.

Janet and Nelson Hallahan both asked for new attorneys during a hearing Wednesday. U.S. District Judge James Shadid appointed a federal public defender for Janet Hallahan and scheduled another hearing Friday.

The Peoria Journal Star (http://bit.ly/LKARyM ) reports Nelson Hallahan will have an attorney appointed at that hearing and both could enter pleas to charges of failing to appear for sentencing in May 2000.

The Hallahans were arrested May 5 in Arizona by authorities acting on a tip from "America's Most Wanted."

They disappeared from Illinois after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud, bank fraud and money laundering.
