University of Miami defensive lineman Jeffrey Brown was Wednesday charged with sexual battery over an alleged attack that took place Saturday on campus, the Miami Herald reported.
The 19-year-old redshirt freshman surrendered to Coral Gables police Wednesday afternoon, and was suspended indefinitely from the school's football program.
The arrest affidavit said the woman had returned to her dorm room shortly before 4:00am Saturday and Brown followed her in "under pretense he was concerned for her well being."
But as she lay in bed, Brown raped her, the woman told police, adding she did not have the physical strength to fight the 6ft 3in (1.90m), 295-pound (134kg) lineman.
Brown originally denied having sex with the woman, but later withdrew the statement.
"The University of Miami has become aware of the serious charges made against a student athlete, and he has been suspended indefinitely from the football program," a school statement said.
