Atlanta Weather Forecast - Monday

A strong cold front passes through today to usher in noticeable changes in the next 24 hours. For today, only stray showers/thunderstorms at most are expected for the metro area. The chance of rain in any one area is only 20% for the morning and early afternoon. Instead, most of our area will experience partly cloudy skies, breezy northwest winds, and high temperatures in the very warm upper 80s and low 90s. The greatest risk of storms will be near Columbus, Thomaston, and Macon beginning around 2pm. These storms in middle Georgia could become severe with large hail, strong winds, and frequent lightning. Most, if not all, of this should stay south of the FOX 5 viewing area…although, for an hour or two today (around 2pm-4pm), it will be a close call for places like Upson, Pike, and Lamar counties. After 4pm, any storms lined up along the front will rapidly move much farther south.

By afternoon, cooler, much less humid air will begin to filter in from the north. We’ll notice a change in humidity levels by late afternoon, but temperatures will still be quite warm. However, temperatures tonight will cool into the upper 50s and low 60s with fall-like humidity levels. It will be a refreshing change for late July! For Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we’ll enjoy sun-filled skies, low humidity, morning temperatures in the low 60s and highs in the low to mid 80s. Rising humidity and scattered thundershowers will return for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
