Lawyer: 'No Visible Signs' Father Was Unstable

More details are providing insight into the family life and past of a Scottsdale man who allegedly killed his two children.

The question on everyone's mind: what was so bad at home that someone could do such a thing?

Family members say 39-year-old Andre Leteve was in a troubled marriage headed for divorce. And at one point, the children's mother filed for an order of protection from her husband.

Wednesday morning, 15-month-old Asher and 5-year-old Alec Leteve were found dead inside their upscale Scottsdale home. Andre Leteve called 911 saying he had shot his children. He then tried to kill himself, but failed. The bullet went through his chin and out his nose.

Family members say the divorce was not nasty. They say there were no real warning signs that Leteve would kill his children and try to commit suicide.

Now Laurie Leteve is left wondering how her husband could take their childrens' lives.

"She said, 'All I wanted was a divorce'," says family spokesperson Robert Jensen. "She was not able to coherently discuss things with me, all she could say was 'He took my babies."

Jensen is Laurie Leteve's divorce attorney. He says there were no warning signs Leteve would hurt his kids. Jensen says the couple's divorce was pretty amicable.

"I was absolutely stunned because I've had cases which I might have predicted this," he says. "There were truly no visible signs."

Jensen says in recent months, the couple had agreed to share custody. But while they may have been getting along recently, that wasn't always the case.

According to court documents, Laurie Leteve filed for an order of protection against her husband last summer.

She had told police Leteve tried to have her removed from her home, "placed GPS tracking on my cell phone to stalk me," and "he grabbed my clothing and said he was going to rape me."

Later, she tried to get the order of protection dismissed because they started getting along and Andre had changed his medication.

On the morning of the shooting, Andre called Laurie asking her to come over to his house, according to family members. She ignored him, and hours later, Leteve apparently killed both of their sons.

"She is a devoted and loving mother and parents out there can understand, this is devastating. Its beyond devastating."

Andre Leteve is expected to recover fully. As for Laurie Leteve, she's left to deal with the deaths of her two sons.
