Agents, Police Search for Officer's Killer

It was a cold-blooded murder and now the the FBI and Maywood Police are once again asking for the public's help in catching the killer or killers.

It has been five years since Officer Thomas Wood was shot and killed execution style in Maywood. But whoever was responsible remains on the loose.

FBI and Maywood Police continue to work the case, but initial leads fell through. Now agents hope that with the five year anniversary, that someone's conscience may be nagging on them, or someone may have heard something about Officer Wood's murder.

We first profiled this case on Chicago's Most Wanted in January 2008, so it's been a while since this case has been in the public's eye.

Officer Wood, who was a nine year veteran of the Maywood Police department, was sitting in his squad car at the end of his shift in the early morning hours of Oct. 23, 2006.

He was parked near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Erie Street in Maywood with his K9 partner in the squad car when someone walked up and shot him multiple times.

Officer Wood was part of his department's effort to investigate and eliminate gang activity in Maywood, and it's likely that the murder was connected to those efforts.

It doesn't look like robbery was a motive, because his wallet was not taken.

Officer Wood is survived by his wife and four children.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Chicago FBI at 312-421-6700.
