Chicago's Most Wanted Santiago Valdes

Posted:

Fifty-five year old Santiago Valdes has been on the run since March of 2001. That's when investigators say he not only beat, but also stabbed, another man to death.

Chicago police and FBI agents believe Valdes beat Domingo Chacon with a baseball bat, and then stabbed him with a kitchen knife, after discovering Chacon was having an affair with his wife. They say Valdes killed Chacon in his wife's apartment which was then located in the 1400 block of west Cullerton. Police found Chacon's body a short time later in a vacant unit in that same building.

Agents add Valdes skipped town within hours of committing this crime. They identified a friend of Valdes who said he drove Valdes to the airport and that Valdes said he was leaving to visit a brother in New York City after "arguing" with Chacon. Investigators did not find him there or in Florida. A tipster indicated Valdes may have also fled to Miami where he could have hidden in the city's Cuban community. Valdes is of Cuban descent.

Despite the trail appearing to have gone cold, FBI agents now say they have reason to believe Valdes may be back in the Chicago area. They say he still has friends and family here.

Here is a description of what agents say Valdes looks like. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5' 9", 180 pounds, with dark hair and dark eyes. Valdes also has a medium build and a medium complexion.

He is considered armed and dangerous.
