Paul Says US Foreign Policy Contributed To 9/11

Posted:

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who is among the Republican presidential frontrunners in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa, on Sunday repeated his controversial stance that US foreign policy helped lead to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

During an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," host Bob Schieffer quizzed Paul about his past statements suggesting that 9/11 occurred because of US actions overseas.

"Well, I think there's an influence," Paul said.

"And you talk to the people who committed it and those individuals who would like to do us harm, they say, yes, we don't like American bombs to be falling on our country. We don't like the intervention that we do in their nations," he continued.

Paul said it was "dangerous" to promote the notion that terrorists attacked the US "because we're free and prosperous."

Paul disputed, however, that he believes the attacks are "America's fault."

"No. I think that's a misconstruing of what I'm saying because America is you and I. And we didn't cause it. The average American didn't cause it," he said. "But if you have a flawed policy, it may influence it."
