HOUSTON (AP) - James Shields struck out 12 in eight innings as the Kansas City Royals completed a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros with a 5-1 win last night. Shields gave up one run and four hits. He got back to his winning ways after seeing his nine-game road victory streak snapped in his last start at Minnesota when sloppy defense led to six unearned runs in a 7-1 loss.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled twice and scored two runs as the Texas Rangers beat Seattle Mariners 8-6 yesterday. Texas lost the opener of the four-game series on Monday night but won the last three. Kouzmanoff is hitting .414 since joining the Rangers on April 9th after starting third baseman Adrian Beltre strained his left quadriceps.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Ducks already found the lighter side of a potentially disastrous playoff injury a day after Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf took a slap shot to the head. Nobody in either dressing room was surprised to learn Getzlaf plans to play against the Dallas Stars in Game 2 tonight night despite a huge cut on his face. Getzlaf was hit by Tyler Seguin's shot in the final minute of the Ducks' 4-3 victory over Dallas.

DALLAS (AP) - Monta Ellis has been shrugging off the skeptics throughout his first season with Dallas. So it comes as no surprise that the guard simply says "the standings is 0-0" with the Mavericks getting ready for a first-round playoff series with a San Antonio team they haven't beaten in more than two years. The best-of-seven Western Conference series opens Sunday at the top-seeded Spurs.
