(NewsCore) - An aide to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) resigned after being arrested for trying to conceal marijuana as he entered the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., Politico reported Wednesday.
Marcus Stanley, who served as a senior economic adviser, allegedly attempted to ’remove and conceal’ a leafy green substance from his pocket as he was being screened for admittance into the building Tuesday, according to a Capitol Police report. The substance tested positive for marijuana.
’Marcus Stanley is no longer with this office,’ Zachary Cole, a spokesman for Boxer, told Politico. ’He submitted his resignation and Senator Boxer accepted it because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable.’
Boxer has said she is opposed to Proposition 19, a California ballot measure that would legalize marijuana.
More than a dozen people have been caught attempting to bring marijuana or other drugs into the Capitol complex. Stanley is the fourth Hill aide to be arrested this year, according to Politico.
