Texas State University is now an Emerging Research University.
"What it does, is affirm the path that the university is already on and I think in many people's minds who don't know the Texas State University of today, it kind of changes the way they look at our university," said Dr. Denise Trauth, President of Texas State University.
It was just 12 years ago Texas State University awarded its first PhD. Since then, the university has increased the number of doctoral programs and graduates as well as quadrupling the amount of money the university has spent on research in the last five years.
The Emerging Research status will also help draw in professors like Doctor Thomas Myers, Director of the New Material Science, Engineering and Commercialization Program.
"What that will do is allow us to bring in bigger players, people who have better reputations and people who are starting out will have much more of a reason to come here," said Dr. Myers.
