Williamson County officials gathered Thursday to break ground on their new $18 million Emergency Operations Center.
When finished, it will combine Emergency Management and 9-1-1 Communications all under one roof.
It will be located off the inner loop in Georgetown on a 157-acre tract next the County's Juvenile Center and Regional Animal Shelter.
Construction should last about 18 months.
County Judge Dan Gattis says the new facility is needed to protect Williamson County citizens.
"It's a good project. It's the kind of project the county needs to be doing. Public safety is one of our primary goals. It is one of the things we are charged with to be concerned about and working on. And this building will greatly aid us to be able to provide better public safety," said Gattis.
The land where the new Williamson County Emergency Operation Center is being built already belonged to the county so they did not have to purchase the land.
