Looking for a summer romance or maybe something a little more serious? If you are like thousands of Austinites, you do not even have to leave the comfort of your living room to meet that special someone.

Online dating sites have revolutionized the way Americans find new love interests. Now a new study shows those hook ups are leading more and more people down the aisle.

According to a recent survey of more than 11,000 people, out of all the marriages in the last three years, 17% of the newlyweds met on online dating sites. That is compared to just 11% who met at bars, clubs and other social events and just four percent who met at church.

The survey was commissioned by Match.com and conducted by the market research firm of Chadwick Martin Bailey.

While the survey shows one in six marriages started online, the rest met in more traditional ways.

A little more than one in three people report they met at the work place or at school. About a quarter of people met through a friend or family member.
