A southeast Austin home and community center is getting some repair work, all thanks to the Austin Police Department and a local non-profit group.
Flo's comfort house off Montopolis and US 183 was in need of repairs. For 18 years, the home has been a safe place for children to go after school. There, they can get their clothes washed, eat a hot meal, or work on art projects.
The local non-profit group SCARE for a Cure was on hand to do most of the repairs, and the director, Jarrett Crippen says the home needed it.
“It's a great place but it really needed some work. It needed some cleaning up. The roof, a tree fell on the roof. A ceiling fell in so we're replacing he ceiling. Even some of the doors wouldn't shut right so we have a locksmith out here repairing some of the doors. A lot of different projects”
More than 50 volunteers showed up to do the work. In addition to those repairs, volunteers put a fresh coat of paint on some of the playground equipment.
