St. Catherine of Siena Church in South Austin recently installed one of the largest solar panel arrays at a church in Texas. It is one of the many ways they are working to be a greener church.
The 3,000 square foot installation is over the parking lot. A parishioner who passed away donated the money that funded the project.
The solar panels will provide electricity for about 46% of the administrative building which will save the church roughly $9,000 a year in energy costs.
St. Catherine’s officials told FOX 7 they also plan to xeriscape the church grounds and install a rainwater collection system.
