Construction workers went on a hunger and thirst strike on Thursday in front of Austin City Hall. The Workers Defense Project held the event to push for more water and food breaks.

The strike went on through the rain with various speakers talking about the injustice they say construction workers endure everyday.

The organizers of the event say that one out of three workers report that they are not provided enough water while working. One worker says the lack of jobs make them work under such harsh conditions.

Workers Defense Project says they promote fair working conditions for Austin’s low wage workers. They have recovered $500,000 in back wages for hundreds of them.
