The Austin Transportation Department has been meeting with downtown residents and businesses about parking issues. At the last meeting, many showed support for extending the hours of parking meters downtown. Currently, drivers only have to pay the meters until 5:30 p.m.

Earlier this week, the Transportation Department sent a memo the City Council and City manager Marc Ott summarizing the most recent meeting.

The stakeholders at the meeting also indicated support for more restrictions on valet parking and better enforcement of existing rules.

As a result of the meeting the Transportation Department will compile a set of recommendations about extended parking meter hours and valet parking and present those to the City Council for consideration in the near future.
