On Thursday the Austin Humane Society took 13 Chihuahuas into custody after the Round Rock Animal control seized them as part of a cruelty investigation. The owners surrendered the dogs to avoid cruelty charges.
The majority of the dogs were long-haired Chihuahuas.
After they were taken into custody, the dogs received medical care. They were suffering from a variety of ailments including roundworms, neurological conditions, heart conditions, and hip problems.
Officials say the dogs showed signs of medical neglect and inbreeding.
At least ten of the dogs will be available for adoption at the Austin Humane Society on Saturday. The AHS is open from noon to 7:00 p.m. The AHS is located at 124 W Anderson Lane.
