Police are searching for several suspects accused of posing as service men and stealing copper from business rooftops.
According to Police, since August 2011, several suspects described as White and Hispanic acted as legitimate servicemen with various company logos on their shirts and or vehicles. They parked their vehicles next to the buildings, in large strip centers, at various times of the day and use ladders to gain access to the rooftops.
Police say they have cut and stolen over $10,000 in copper tubing from air conditioning systems.
The vehicles that have been seen are a white van, a white Ford F-250 pickup truck and other pickup trucks.
Police are advising business owners and employees to secure the AC systems and any roof access to their business to prevent the thefts from occurring. They also encourage making contact with the maintenance person, asking for identification and writing down the license plate number to determine of the person has a legitimate purpose for being there.
Anyone with any information is urged to call the burglary unit at 512-974-6941.
