Austin, (TX) - The two bee hives found Thursday morning in East Austin will stay put at least for now. This comes after bees stung a man on 13th street at least 500 times.
Willard Duncan, 85, as of Thursday remains in the hospital.
Duncan’s son says his father was mowing the lawn for the property owner when the attack happened. A neighbor who witnessed it called 911.
Duncan was sent to UMC Brackenridge in critical condition. His son says he's improving.
"The only concern now is the swelling on his face, his eyes but other than that he can communicate."
After finding no hives on Wednesday...the next day more bee specialists were on the scene and found two.
Walter Schumacher, with the Central Texas Bee Rescue made the discovery. He was stung 56 times during his time at the property.
"It feels like a sharp hot poker, it feels like getting a shot but then it stays for awhile,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher removed the bees from one of the hives late Thursday night. He said he would return on Friday to remove the honeycombs and the dead tree.
Although, the victim's son says his father is recovering, no one has asked him about the incident.
They want to allow him to get in better health first.
