Fire Damages Blue Theater in East Austin

Austin, TX - The executive director of the Blue Theatre in Austin says a fire broke out at an area between the Blue Theatre and Blue Genie Arts Bazaar on Tuesday night. .

Nicole Portman says the both the interior and exterior of the theatre was damaged by the fire, but that the fire won't dampen the spirit of the theatre. The Blue Light Special Block Party is still on for this Sunday, which was originally suppose to raise money for new lighting equipment will now raise money to fix up the theatre.

Portman says all proceeds from Sunday's live music event will go towards keeping the doors open.

Event starts at 2pm, Sunday August 1. The Blue Theatre is located on 916 Springdale Road.
