myFOXaustin(AUSTIN) - Zilker Park isn't the place you'd expect to see an octopus but at the Kite Festival Sunday everything goes. From birds to sea creatures, you name it, it crowded the Austin skyline. For Wendie Wade and her kids it's a chance to enjoy the weather.

"I like this one because we could just hang out for the day, have a picnic, have some fun, and hang out as family," says
Wade.

For some first time kite flyers it's all about the challenge. For 9-year-old Bryanna Wade it's about keeping her kite from hitting the ground.

"It just keeps getting tangled," she says. It's an 82-year-old tradition Festival coordinators are trying to maintain while also giving to charity. "

We take a part of the proceeds from the vendors and we put that in a mission by supporting non-profits in the Central Texas area that are serving children and getting them out of a bad situation," says Bunnie Twidwell, Festival Co-chair. Up in the air the sudden gusts of wind keep kite runners busy.

5-year old Adisak Eason tells fox 7 he is determined to keep his Spiderman kite flying. "I cannot get it," says Eason.

The festival continued until 6pm.
