Two Inmates Escape from Bastrop Prison
Two inmates escape from a Bastrop federal prison and one of them has been spotted in the Austin area. 52 year old Leandro Luna and 53 year old Adan Chavez walked away from the Bastrop Federal Prison Camp over the weekend.
Both men were severing time for drug related charges. Leandro Luna is serving a 10 year sentence for marijuana import and distribution. Adan Chavez was sentenced to 30 years on marijuana, cocaine and weapons related charges. Luna was seen in the Austin area Friday night, near Decker Lane and Martin Luther King. Officials say Luna has family in the city and may still be in the area.
Authorities do not know if the men are together; but are currently asking people to call police if they think they have seen either man. The public is encouraged to call the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force at (512) 916-5393 or the nearest law enforcement agency, if they have any information regarding these men.
The US Marshals are conducting a criminal investigation to determine if anyone helped the pair escape or were assisted on the outside. Additional federal charges are expected to be filed against the duo.
