myFOXaustin(AUSTIN) - That knock on the door this morning could have been one of the state's 250 law enforcement agencies. The Great Texas Warrant Round-Up was rounding them up.
So far, 27 people have been booked into the Travis County Jail since about 6 this morning. Another 48 were processed in municipal court to pay their warrants. Five other were able to pay by credit card when police showed up at their door today.
This morning we went along as Austin police officers went door to door trying to make contact with people who had warrants, for Class C Misdemeanors, offenses like traffic tickets. In total some two thousand violators’ city-wide.
Those who were home had a chance to pay up on the spot with a credit card. But for those who didn't, they were taken to see a municipal judge. Special arrangements were made for some, but others were booked into jail.
Those who weren't home, received an orange door hanger or notice on their car
"The lesson out of this is it's better to go in on your own because you won't be arrested in the court instead of us coming out to arrest you, cause then you will be arrested. It's a lot easier to talk to the judge down there, then it is after you've gone in with us. They're not as sympathetic," said Ofc. Steve Ried with the Austin Police Department
If you have an outstanding warrant, and haven't been visited yet, you can take care of your warrant by paying by credit card. The number you need to call is 512-974- 4640. Or you can visit with a judge tomorrow from 8:30 to 11:30 at the Municipal Courthouse on 7th Street.
