Pregnancy centers that do not offer abortion services must now post a sign outside saying that they do not. The Austin City Council approved the measure on Thursday. Centers that disregard the ordinance could be fined.
Council Member Bill Spellman sponsored the item after a number of complaints against pregnancy resource centers. The people complaining claimed that staff used misleading tactics to draw in clients without offering all the options available.
Starting on April 19 centers will have to post signs outside their doors informing clients of the services they do not perform.
