Austin Police have charged Carolina Juarez and Jesus Meza with theft after they say the pair stole a bicycle and tried to sell it on Craigslist. The robbery victim found the posting for his bike online and contacted police.

According to court paperwork, the victim’s home was burglarized in January. Several items were taken from the home as well as a storage shed including a bicycle.

On March 10 the victim called police to inform them that he found what he believed to be his bike for sale on Craigslist. The victim told police that he recognized the bike based on photographs in the ad showing specific modifications he made to the bike.

An Austin Police detective called the number listed in the ad claiming he wanted to purchase the bike. He spoke to a woman who agreed to meet to sell him the bike.

Several police detectives arrived at the meeting location and saw Juarez and Meza approaching while pushing the bike. Police say that the two appeared nervous when confronted. Police tried to detain the pair for questioning but Meza attempted to flee. He and Juarez were arrested on suspicion of theft and taken in for questioning.

According to court documents, Juarez told police that she and Meza obtained the bike from a person she believed stole it. She claimed that the person who gave them the bike also put up the Craigslist ad.

The victim was able to positively identify the bike in question as his stolen property.
