Auto Maintenance Man in South Austin has been offering what it calls “green oil change service” using oil made from animal fat.
Owner JD Longnion says the biodegradable oil has no harsh effects on the environment and that many of his customers have made the switch.
About 80%, maybe even closer to 90% of our customers changed to this,” said Longnion. “It wasn't anything we had to push, just let them know it's better for their car and the environment.”
Brenda Sansig has been taking her car to the same auto repair shop for years.
“This is about my fourth car I've been bringing over here,” Sansig said.
She said she trusts the mechanics, but also likes their efforts to be environmentally friendly.
“The whole biodegradable thing is good for the environment.”
“I had the opportunity to get my oil changed earlier and I waited until they had it in stock because they're selling out so fast,” customer Ben Marsh said.
Longnion said his shop is the first and only one in Austin to offer biodegradable oil.
Customers say the biodegradable oil lasts just as long as regular motor oil and performs just as good if not better.
