Austin, TX (myFOXaustin.com) - Austin Police caught a burglar, who has targeted the Chuggin' Monkey several times, stealing beer from their back patio bar. Charles Clark, 44, was caught breaking into the bar early Sunday morning by employees and chased down by police officers.
According to an arrest affidavit, employees of the bar decided to stay late Saturday night in an attempt to find the person who had been breaking into the bar and stealing their beer. Employees were leaving the bar after the burglar was a no-show, when one of them went back into the bar to get their keys and noticed someone in the back patio bar. Clark fled the scene leaving behind a bag filled with beers.
Austin Police officers on bike patrol tracked down Clark just a few blocks away on San Jacinto. An officer questioning Clark noticed that he was trying to hide something in his back pocket. Clark had a wallet that contained some citations and a credit card with another persons name on it.
A manager from the Chugging Monkey told officers that there store had been robbed seven times over the past month. The the person stealing from them only took alcoholic beverages. Officers believe that Clark climbed over the 9 foot fence to steal beverages. Surveillance video from previous robberies show a person wearing the same clothing as Clark and carrying the same bag that was left behind by Clark.
Clark was charged with burglary of a non-residence and tampering with evidence. The tampering with evidence charge came from Clark trying to conceal a credit card from police officers.
