Twelve people were killed and another 31 people were wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood Thursday. The shooting suspect Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, was shot multiple times and is in stable condition.
Earlier in the afternoon, the commander of Ft. Hood Lt General Cone told reporters that the suspected shooter was killed in the attack. He again spoke with the media after 8:00 p.m. and revealed that in fact, Hasan was alive.
Cone added that Hasan was not speaking ot investigators at this time.
The shooting took place at 1:30 Thursday at the soldier readiness center. According to officials, the soldier used handguns in the attack.
One civilian police officer was also shot by Hasan. Authorities say she was the first person to respond to the scene. She is out of surgery and is in stabel condition.
Cone, told the media that many of the soldiers provided first aid to many of the victims until the area could be secured and first responders could enter the area.
Two of the wounded were taken to Seton Medical Center in Williamson County. One is in good condition while the other is in surgery and listed in critical condition.
NIne patients have been taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
The lockdown has been lifted for Killeen ISD Schools. Parents who come to the campuses can pick their children up. No child will be allowed to walk home or ride the bus.
