(CENTERVILLE)-- A serial rapist responsible for attacks in four Texas counties is on the loose. Police say all of his victims are elderly women.

Leon County Sheriff Jerry Wakefield says he attacks in the middle of the night, in their own bedrooms, then walks away with stolen cash, items, anything he can get his hands on.

People in Centerville are locking up.

"A lot of the elderly women are arming themselves, getting out their old pistols, they're cleaning them up," Sheriff Wakefield said.

"It makes me angry more than anything, the elderly people are being attacked like this," Sue Sandel said. Her neighbor--an elderly widow--is the latest victim of what the sheriff is calling a serial rapist.

Authorities have matched the suspect's DNA and MO to almost identical attacks, not only in Leon County, but also Bell, Falls, and Lavaca counties.

"Every time it happens, we're just worried about it, everybody's prayerful. The church's have prayer vigils going on about it, everybody's concerned and just being aware," Sandel said.

"We had a community meeting at the courthouse Monday. Approximately 200 people attended that," the sheriff said. He also holds briefings twice a day, with other law enforcement officials, to get this criminal behind bars.

"Whether it be Leon County, Bell, or whatever, we're going to track you down. You will end up in prison over this, if you don't end up dead," the sheriff sends a message to the suspect.

Even with eight victims, authorties don't have a clear-cut description of the man.
