Mom Gets DWI with Kid in Car

Austin Police have charged Rebecca Graham with driving while intoxicated after they found her asleep behind the wheel of her car with her child in the back seat. Police say the car was running in the parking lot outside her apartment.

According to court paperwork, a witness observed smoke coming from the hood of the car and walked over to investigate. He saw Graham asleep in the driver’s seat with the car running. He said he knocked on the window which caused Graham to wake up. He told police that after that, she looked at him and went back to sleep.

Police interviewed Graham who told them she had just returned from her sister’s house where she had consumed two Zimas. She said she took one of her children upstairs and left the other child in the back seat for her husband to come down and get. She then claims to have come back down to the parking lot and was only in the apartment for a few minutes.

Officers say they detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and asked her to perform several field sobriety tests which she allegedly failed.

Graham has two previous convictions for driving while intoxicated.
