Travis County opposes a plan to discharge treated wastewater into local lakes.
Right now, Texas law prohibits dumping treated sewage into Lake Austin and Lake Travis.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is considering lifting the ban so cities like Leander can save money on water treatment costs.
But, people who live on Lake Travis say it's not Leander they're worried about.
"It's a big, brand new well equipped, well managed plant. But there are 33 other wastewater utilities up and down the lakes. And the range is huge about their age," said Cole Rowland, Lakeway resident.
Rowland also says he's worried the older utilities will pollute.
The City of Lakeway also opposes lifting the ban.
