Lakeway Robbers Captured in Dumpster

Lakeway, TX - myfoxaustin.com (LAKEWAY, TX) - A six hour man hunt ended in a dumpster Monday evening after an attempted jewelry store heist that ended with one person injured.

Police said just after 10:30am, three men entered the Cristiani Jewelry store on Lakeway Blvd. Police said two employees inside the store believed the men were acting suspicious, so they called 911. That's when detectives said the men got upset and began hitting one woman before leaving the store.
 

One man was arrested on the scene, the two others fled on foot. DPS and Starflight choppers were called in to search the wooded areas nearby. Troopers and police searched a nearby neighborhood and even initiated a reverse 911 call to about 500 residents asking them to lock their doors.
 

Hours later, the two men were spotted at the American mini-storage climbing into a dumpster. The owner said a customer saw the men and told him to call police.
 

"We called them, and 30 seconds later they were here. Our driveway was loaded with cops. We saw the lids fly open and then you saw one head pop up then another head pop up. And then, one of the officers waived his finger to the helicopter above. That's what they were looking for," said store owner Dwayne Etheridge.
 

Travis county spokesman Roger Wade told FOX 7 News the men were suspected in an armed car robbery Sunday night. The car they were driving in was reported stolen. An off duty officer Monday morning was the first to call police after he ran the plates on the car and found out it was stolen.
 

Police have not released the suspects names. Police are expected to charge the men with attempted aggravated robbery.
