Morning Robbery Sends Man to Hospital

A man says he was robbed and shot Wednesday morning in North Austin. But police now say he does not have a gunshot wound.

Around 3:20 a.m., an APD sergeant says the victim drove up to a 7-11 on Masterson and told officers there that he had been robbed at gunpoint by two men while he was in the parking lot of a neaby apartment complex.

Police say he initially told them he had been shot in the back of the head.

He was bleeding, but police say it was not from a gunshot wound -- it was a gash.

The man was taken to Brackenridge Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police set up a perimeter to search the area for possible suspects.

"We're searching this area," said Sgt. James Nissula with APD. "We set up a perimeter and we had our K9 unit come out and search for the suspects, but at this point, we have not located them."

The pickup the man was driving has been towed away.

Police say that pickup matches the description of one from a shots-fired call earlier in the morning less than a mile south of Masterson, on Hackberry Lane.
