On Monday the Austin Police Department's dive team pulled a vehicle from Lake Austin. Hours later, they recover the body of a Hispanic woman.
Early this morning, APD received a call from a boater, reporting a vehicle floating in Lake Austin, near the Quinlan Park boat ramp.
APD and AFD sent out their dive team. Divers didn't find any evidence of the driver. Around lunchtime, divers recovered the body of a female. As they pulled the body from the lake, investigators matched her identity and the vehicle description to a missing persons report that was called in late last night.
"Quinlan Park Road dead-ends into Lake Austin. There's a boat ramp there. So if you're not familiar with that area, it's very easy for someone to drive off into the lake," Sgt Richard Stressing said. "So I believe she accidentally got on the wrong road, accidentally got into the lake. She was able to open one of the car doors into the lake, but unfortunately, couldn't make it.
The police scene was taken down this afternoon before 2:30. All is back to normal on the Quinlan Park boatramp.
