Austin, TX - An Austin Police officer could face jail time after being accused of stealing a razor from a grocery store. Investigators say 37-year-old William Deal has been asked to turn in his badge, id and gun while internal affairs conducts its investigation.
Deal has been with Austin Police Department for 12 years.
The incident happened back on February 18th at the HEB grocery store on East Whitestone Blvd in Cedar Park.
According to court papers, deal went into the store just after 9:00 in the evening.
Loss prevention workers told police they noticed Deal take a Norelco Cool Skin Electric Razor off the shelf.
Police say he then went to the greeting card section of the store, ripped open the packaging and put the razor in his jacket pocket. He later allegedly threw away that packaging in the school supplies isle.
The electric razor is valued at $79.99.
"The Cedar Park Police Department responded to the HEB grocery store at 2800 East Whitestone on a report of a shoplifter in custody. When officers arrived they met with HEB security, staff who was detaining a Mr. Williams Deal," Captain Jeff Hays with the Cedar Park Police Department said.
Deal is charged with a class B misdemeanor theft. If convicted, he could face up to 180 days in jail and or a $2,000 fine.
