AUSTIN, TX (myFOXaustin) - Early reports from multiple sources indicate that the pilot may have started a fire at his house before crashing his plane into the Echelon building in Austin.
A source within the federal government has cofirmed to FOX 7's Rudy Koski that the pilot who crashed his plane into the building also set fire to his house Thursday morning. Two law enforcement officials also confirmed to the Associated Press that Stack's $232,000 home in the 1900 block of Dopplegrey Lane was indeed the home destroyed by the fire.
A local fire station saw the fire and reported to the scene just after 9:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed including the fence. The fire department believest hat the house is a total loss.
Firefighters said a woman and her daughter who live there were already outside the home when they arrived.
The roof of Stack's red brick home on a tree-lined street in a middle-class neighborhood was mostly caved in, and the home's windows were blown out. The garage doors were open and a big pile
of debris was inside.
Red Cross spokeswoman Marty McKellips said the agency was treating two people who live in the house. She said they would not be commenting.
"They're remarkably calm but they're clearly distraught. They're in need of some mental health assistance and we're providing that," McKellips said.
