The University of Texas has taken steps to encourage fans tailgating outside home football games to participate in its recycling program.

Tens of thousands of fans are expected to tailgate in the parking lots near campus before the season opener with Wyoming.

The University is making an attempt to get them to recycle as well.

"Students on this campus expect us to recycle and to recycle right,’ the Director of Sustainability Jim Walker said. ’It is the right thing to do. That is an ethic and a value that is deep within campus, deep within athletics, deep within the dorms."

The school will be handing out free trash bags for people to us to recycle aluminum cans. Students will hand out free trash bags and clear recycling bags. The aluminum will go in the clear bags while all other trash will go in the designated trash bags. Students will then collect the aluminum bags for recycling.

The university is also expanding its recycling effort inside the stadium as well. Last year fans at the games could recycle but now there will be more options for recycling plastics and aluminum inside the stands.
