Austin, TX - Two Austin men are being credited with the capture of an accused bank robber.
The two say they were shot at while they were leading police to the get-away vehicle. It started Wednesday morning at the Wells Fargo Bank near the intersection of William Cannon and Manchaca.
Daniel Corba says he was going to the bank to cash a check with his cousin, when the driver of a dark colored truck pulled in front of him.
"Yeah he cut me off," said Corba. "He came out with a wad full of money. I was like, I'd figure I would follow him, I already had a bad day."
His bad day almost became his last, because according to Corba the man who came out of the bank was not only holding cash, but also a gun.
"Right behind the bank he stopped, let off one round and got back into his vehicle," said Corba.
The bullet sailed past their car.
"We ducked we knew what he was fixing to do," said Corbas cousin Robert Richards.
The two backed off, but they continued to follow the truck into a neighborhood. When the shot was fired, Corba says they were on the phone with a 911 operator they stayed on the phone and helped lead police to the truck.
It was found about two miles away on Wynne Lane, just north of Ditmar. Police recovered several items from inside; including what appears to be money.
The accused bandit was captured not far from where the truck was dumped. It's the third time this bank has been robbed this year. The bank gave Corba and Richards a reward for helping.
