The Twin Liquors family is saying goodbye to one of its founders. Theodore Jabour passed away Monday, Nov. 23 at the age of 88.

Jabour grew up in Austin where his family operated a mercantile store in the heart of the city. As a young boy, he learned how to be a retailer. He and his twin brother, Arthur, loved working in the family business.

During World War II, Theodore and Arthur joined the US Army and served  int he Philippines and New Guinea. After they were discharged, the brothers returned to Austin and began working in the family's store, which had evolved into a liquor store.

In the 1940s Theodore and Arthur, along with their mother and brother, Jesse, expanded their business from one store to three liquor stores and a tavern that only sold beer and featured the first live music on Sixth Street.

For the next 40 years the brothers decided to retire. The family closed the store and tavern.

Theordore was extremely active in his church, St. Elias Church, where he served as greeter for many years and was a lifetime parish counsel member.

In February of 1982, Theodore came out of retirement, and along with his immediate family, consisting of his children, Ralph, Margaret and David, along with Theodore's brother-in-law Gabe Diab, began operating "Twin Liquors at the corner of Seventh and Red River.

Today, Twin Liquors consists of 59 locations throughout Central Texas and they support over 500 charitable events each year.

Theordore remained active in the business until his death providing wisdom, passion and direction for the company.
