APD is targeting aggressive drivers of cars and trucks in a new program which tries to get dangerous drivers off the road andAPD is targeting aggressive drivers of cars and trucks in a new program which tries to get dangerous drivers off the road and hopefully cut back on traffic fatalities involving big rigs. In the first two months of the program more than 4,000 citations were issued; 58 of them turned up with outstanding warrants and 53 more turned up driving with an invalid license.
The main goal is to cut back on traffic fatalities involving big rigs because they don't stop well on short notice. APD has enlisted companies like C.M.C. Steel to place police spotters in their cabs to report overly aggressive drivers.
This is a year long program, funded with a 640,000 dollar grant. The roads they are primarily targeting are: I-35, 290 East and West including Ben White and Research Blvd. and Mopac.
