Austin, TX - In this week's "I Live Here, I Give Here," we take a look at an organization called "A Community for Education."
ACE provides 90,000 hours per year of research-based bilingual literacy tutoring for 1,200 pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grade students in Austin.
After receiving one-on-one ACE turoring, 85 percent of children reach or exceed grade level in key early reading skills.
According to a press release, 110 AmeriCorps members receive intensive training every year. About 30 percent of ACE alumni continue to work in education after their AmeriCorps service ends and 90 percent continue to serve their communities through volunteerism.
