It's registration time at the University of Texas, and for some students that process comes a little easier than for others. The fast track is all thanks to the longhorn scholars program. FOX 7 UT reporter Crystal Hall is live on campus to tell us how this program is helping students.
As one school year is coming to an end, another is just beginning, and for UT, that means registration time
"I would freak out, but because of longhorn scholars program, it was an ease,” said Rachel Esparza, a freshman who's still trying to ease her way into college.
For her and hundreds of other students at UT, help comes from the Longhorn Scholars Program. Longhorn scholars are top graduates from one of 70 high schools across the state of Texas. These 70 high school were chosen, historically, very few if any of their high school graduates would come to UT.
The program gives a majority of these students, who all are top 10 percent graduates, scholarships, and all are able to take full advantage of the opportunity
They also hold many events that offer college students what they all want.
For the advisers that see these students grow throughout college, the experience is just as rewarding. They say want to do everything they can to help students like Rachel succeed. The program has more than 2,600 graduates since it began nine years ago. Every year, about 350 freshmen are admitted.
