Austin, TX - What if you could know all the drink specials and events going on in Austin? Apparently, there's an app for that.

So what's the connection to UT? Aaron Jones, a senior at the school created Bar Buzz ATX -- an iPhone app that allows users to know all the drink specials and events before going downtown.

"Everytime I go downtown, it's a constant sage of where are the best drink specials," Jones said.

So, he developed an app to eliminate this problem.

"It kinda came down to necessity," he said. "A way that I didn't want to have to dig around all over the Internet or I didn't want to have to ask 50,000 people."

Bar Buzz ATX gives info about bars around Austin. Location, events and nightly specials.

Jones said the bars plug in their own information regularly.

"They can actually log in online and keep their information up to date completely free," said Jones.

Users can view information on all bars in Austin, or they can set their location to browse the events and specials in a specific part of town.

Jones said one of his favorite features is call-a-cab, which he created to give people an easy way to get a safe ride.

"So if you're ready to call it a night, or if you want to go to another part of town, a cab or even a pedicab is just two clicks away," Jones said.

After hearing about this new app, a couple of students decided its something they might use.

"I feel like I go to the same places over and over again, and maybe it would encourage me to try a new spot that I haven't been to as much," said Brroks Dennard, UT student.

"It's hard to know what's going on all the time, so it's definitely a way to be more in contact with what's going on in the city," said Sammie Brown, UT student.

Jones plans to expand Bar Buzz nationally, beginning with major cities in Texas. Bar Buzz ATX is a free download from iTunes.

They're working on coming out with a Web application and support for all mobile devices, not just the iPhone.
