Of course reducing and eliminating fatal crashes is a goal of the Austin Police Department, whether that means cracking down on drunk driving or pursuing a hands-free driving ordinance for the city. The latest traffic fatality numbers from APD show some potential progress. Austin police say this time last year there were 51 deaths on ATX roads. That’s a decrease of about 27%.
